International soccer

Occasionally I surf the net and I see some people talking about ‘old’ games but as soon as I read the specifics they are often talking about games that are like 3-4 years old and I think to myself that’s not really old now is it. This game called international soccer by Commodore really does fit into the old category as it was released in 1983!

As the title suggests this is game is about soccer, the international part isn’t really clear as there are no teams or cups or anything like that. In fact I’m not even 100 percent sure it’s called international soccer as there is no title screen which shows the name. Anyway you can start the game by selecting the colors of both teams and wether you wan’t to play against a human or computer opponent. The computer has varying difficulty levels indicated by a number at the selection screen, there is even an option to play on black and white tv sets that’s how old this game is :) All the selections are made with the F-keys (F1-F7). Each half of the match lasts 200 seconds after which you change sides on the field and whoever has the most points at the end of a match wins.

Well technically you can’t expect much from this game as it was released early in the life of the C64 but I played it a lot simply because I had it and at the time every game was new and exciting to me. Now that I look back the game I think of the memories but the game itself hasn’t aged well at all. The game’s really only interesting if you know the game already or if you want to see what a really old game is like, it’s not that it’s a bad game it just doesn’t have a lot to offer to last.

Overal rating: 6/10
