Yes prime minister! is a game which is actually based on a British comedy show that aired in the early eighties. I did not know this at first and thought the game tried to be a serious simulator in which you are the prime minister of the United kingdom. When I found out that it was based on a show some of the comments and events in the game made more sense.

The aim of the game is to survive for one week as the prime minister and you have to make countless decisions about a whole range of subjects. These can range from recovering a lost object to keeping the peace when one of your spies is caught in Russia. All of these decisions are made from a simple multiple choice menu which is presented to you after the character you are talking to asks you a question. Make a good choice and the conversation continues and you get more question, make a bad one and the conversation usually ends and your popularity drops. You start out at 50 percent popularity among voters but I managed to end the game with less than 10 percent. There is no real objective which you must aim for or at least the game doesn’t tell you anything about it.

I don’t really get this game, all events are completely based on others asking you questions and you giving answers. Apparently being a prime minister is a really boring job because the only thing you can do between questioning sessions is to stare at the window and wait for any phonecalls or faxes that come in. Luckily you can click on the clock and time will fastforward to the next event, too bad the next event is just as boring as the previous one. I have never seen this television show but if it is anything like the game I doubt I will ever watch it. I actually read on the net that some people think the humor of the game fits the show well so if you’ve seen it you might enjoy this game but for anyone else it’s a boring game that’s not really worth bothering with. The rating is more for originality of it’s concept than actual gameplay.
Ohyeah the game keeps asking for you to insert the correct side of the floppy disk/tape but I never did and the game kept running without problems on any of the systems.

Overal rating: 5/10
