Hunter patrol
Back in the beginning of videogames there were already plenty of shoot’em ups available as the genre lends itself well to the arcadestyle gameplay that was the norm for those days. Shooters were mostly vertical or horizontal scrollers but some went the path of 3D or as hunter patrol you fly into the screen giving a much different perspective.
The aim of the game is very simple, you simply have to shoot a large number of enemy fighter planes and tanks which will advance you into enemy territory and once at the base you get to take down supply trucks to finish the enemy off. Apart from the planes, tanks and their weapons fire you will be hindered by enemy mortars all of which can kill you in a single blow. Remember though that this is a pretty old game so there is no 3D collision at all meaning that if one object touches you whatever it is you get hit and are destroyed. The only weapon you have is a gun but it can easily take out a plane or even tank with just one hit.
The screen scrolls at you but sadly there are no objects other than the enemies so there is no sense of speed at all. The bar under the screen is a bit misleading as it says distance to target but actually only flying will not decrease the distance but kiling enemies will. When you get to the base and have blown up the supply trucks you can start all over again, great. This kind of game is quite typical of the time and you’ll likely get bored with it very easily. The only thing that makes it different from other shooters is the view from behind. If you’re really nostalgic you can give this a go but otherwise you won’t get much out of it.
Overal rating: 4/10
