- Goonies, the -

The goonies is based on a movie in which a group of kids find a treasuremap and they set out to find the treasure. If they find it it would mean that they can stay in their homes and not move out because the terrain will be used to build a golf course. However the pirate who left the treasure, one eyed Willy, has also left a bunch of traps to prevent anyone from reaching it. If that weren't enough the entrance to the caves leading to the treasure is used by a criminal family called the Fratellis. Will the group be able find the treasure or will they be stopped by one of the traps or the Fratellis.

The game starts at the restaurant leading to the caves and you have to evade the Fratellis. You control two members of the gang and you have to work together to complete each level. To give you an example on the first level you have to get one of the guys to climb up to the attic and start printing fake money, this will make the Fratelli downstairs go outside to catch the money and the other person can now go down and open the cave entrance. Once you are in the cave the one printing the money can make a dash for the cave as well. The rest of the levels are played out in the same manner with you controlling all of the goonies from the movie like Chunk, Mikey and mouth. The levels follow the plot of the movie quite closely and you'll come across familiar places if you've seen it.

I love the goonies movie and I still watch it from time to time so it was a pleasant surprise that the game is better than your average moviegame probably due to the fact that this isn't another action platform game like most them but a puzzle game. The puzzles aren't too difficult to figure out so you should progress nicely from level to level. It's a shame that it only has 8 levels and the graphics aren't really up to much so most of the time it's hard to tell which character you are actually controlling but it does have that catchy goonies themesong playing in the background. Fans of the movie should definately check this game out but even if you haven't then there is still a good puzzle game left so check it out.

This game was released for three different systems here are some notes:
C64 Released in 1985.
Game has been tested but not completed with CCS64 v2.0 win.
Excellent themesong and the puzzles are all here making this the best version.
NES Released in 1986.
Game has been tested but not completed with FCE ultra v0.98.12.
The puzzle game has been replaced by a standard platform game that has you collecting keys and openings doors. Without the puzzles though this is just another standard game.
ZX Spectrum Released in 1985.
Game has been tested but not completed with emuZwin v2.5.
This is the worst looking version but the absolute worst part is the totally unrecognizeable themesong which sounds really crap.
