Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! This is the commercial used to attract customers who have problems with anything 'spooky' as you start up your own ghostbusting francize. With a 10.000 dollar loan from the bank you can buy enough equipment to start busting those ghosts and make plenty of money. It won't be easy though since the city is about to be overrun by ghosts leading up to the coming of Gozer who wants to take over this dimension.

You can start by buying a car for carrying you around and you can select from four different models, one of them is the hearse from the movies. The others range from a compact model to a fast sportscar that costs more money than you have. The first three models have speed and carrying capacity matching their price but the sporty model is very fast but carries limited equipment. The only required equipment you need are traps with which you can capture and temporarily store ghosts, these will need to be unloaded at your headquarters so bring a couple instead of only one to save time. Other equipment makes life easier for you such as image intensifiers so you can see ghosts better and a vacuum to suck up those wandering ghosts while you drive around, while not required this item should always be bought because it will decrease the rate at which the PK energy rises (more on that later). Once you finish buying stuff you will be thrown straight into the action and onto your first catch.

The city is shown from an overhead map with your headquarters at the bottom and in the middle the building attracting ghosts from the four corners. If you plot your driving route over these ghosts you can suck them up with your vacuum, it won't gain you money but it will buy you some time so do this whenever possible. If there is a ghost sighted in an area it will flash red and you can go there to capture it but if you buy a pk meter from the shop you will get advanced warning and you can get there sooner. Capturing the ghost is a matter of using your men to enclose it inside your beams and then to open the trap hopefully grabbing it but fail and he will slime one of you which puts him out of the action. You need at least two guys to capture a ghost so if two of them get slimed you have to drive back to you HQ to get fresh employees. Whenever you go back to HQ not only are your men exchanged but the traps are emptied as well which is vital if you are to capture a lot of ghosts. Beware of the marsmallow man because if the PK meter reaches 9999 he will appear and destroy a city block which will be deducted from your account, if cash runs out it will be game over. The aim is to survive long enough so that the keymaster and gatekeeper get together which will trigger the coming of Gozer. You can then try to slip past the marsmallowman and take out Gozer.

I played this game so many times when I was younger that I was able to win every time and make an enormous profit doing so. The fun part is that if you win you will get a code and you can start the next game with the money that you made in a previous game. There are also references to the movie like the speech saying 'he slimed me!' after you get hit by a ghost and the fact that you can't cross the power streams. It won't be easy to win a game and the codes give the game replay value. I think this game is great and everyone should check it out.

Overal rating: 8/10

This game was released for several different systems here are some notes:
Apple Released in 1985.
Gameplay is much like the others but the sounds are really horrible.
Amstrad CPC Released in 1985.
This is like the ZX version.
Atari 2600 Released in 1985.
Game has been tested but not completed with Stella v1.4.1.
This is a very basic version.
C64 Released in 1984.
Game has been tested but not completed with CCS64 v2.0 win.
My favorite version with the theme song and speech.
NES Released in 1986 by Kemco.
Game has been tested but not completed with FCE ultra v0.98.12.
This version changes things by not giving you codes but instead you can buy things while you are in the game and you also have to refuel from time to time. This is actually the Japanese version but most of the game is still in English except for the status messages.
SMS - Sega
Master system
Released in 1987.
Game has been tested but not completed with Dega v1.12.
This plays like the NES version but you do not have to refuel.
ZX Spectrum Released in 1984.
Game has been tested but not completed with emuZwin v2.5.
Plays very slowly and graphics/sound are not up to the C64 version but essentially the same.
Others These versions are not available.
