- Ace of aces -

Ace of aces is a flight simulator set in World War 2 and it focusses on action instead of simulation. At the start of the game you can select to go on a training or a real mission. The training can be dogfighting, an U-boat run or attacking a train while a mission will usually involve a combination while you are flying towards your actual goal. On the missions you can outfit your plane with several types of weapons as you see fit but remember to stock up on the correct ones or it will be difficult to complete. Unlike many other games you haven't got unlimited machinegun ammo so don't go blasting away. Each mission is standalone and there is no career mode or something similar.

The controls are rather sluggish, true I have no idea how a real plane would feel but when you push the stick it takes ages before the plane reacts and moves in that direction. This could be because you're flying a bomber type plane so it could be by design but I can't say for sure. The graphics are pretty bad even for a game it's age, the scenery is almost non excistent and in the bombing runs the screen flashes in a weird way and you basically can't see anything. This game kinda reminds me of the train escape from Normandy, a game from Accolade that is also set in world war 2 but that game is far better. I can't say that I like this game and unless you have some sentimental feelings about it I doubt you'll get much out of it.

Overal rating: 4/10
