- Rick dangerous -

South America 1945
Rick Dangerous, allround adventurer and explorer, is looking for the lost tribe of the Goolu but unfortunately his plane brakes down and he is forced to bail out into the deep jungle. He's found the Gooles but it turns out that they are vicious killlers and now Rick has to escape their territory with his trusty gun and some dynamite. Will he be able to escape or will he end up in a cooking pot?

Rick Dangerous is action/puzzle game that involves Rick, an Indiana Jones lookalike, going trough tons of levels filled with traps and natives who are out to get him. The only thing he was ble to bring before jumping out of the plane was his trusty sixshooter and six sticks of dynamite. More supplies were on the plane but they are now scattered throughout the various levels. Each level is several screens long and you will have to think quick and do some precise timing if you are to survive all the spikes and boulders not to mention the natives who often follow you around. You can take care of them by shooting them but you only get six shots after which you can only use a stick to temporarily stun them. It's doesn't take much for wouldbe hero Rick to call it quits because the slightest touch of a nasty object or native is enough to send him screaming.

Altough the level design is ok there are many things that will kill you without you being able to react to it and this makes the game very annoying at times. Many traps intentionally try and kill you this way and it means that you have to learn where all the traps in a level are or you won't be able to survive for very long. This combined with the fact that you get send back to the beginning of a level once you die means the game is very difficult. The graphics are done in a cartoonish way and sound is what you would expect from a game of this type and they're nothing special but they get the job done. The high difficulty rating and often frustrating gameplay can be very offputting but I suggest you use a trainer so you can concentrate more on the puzzles instead of trying to stay alive, the Atari St version is excellent in this context because you can have infinite lives, bullets and bombs.

Overal rating: 6.5/10
