- River raid -

River raid is a very early action game that was released first on the Atari 2600 and later ported to a number of different systems. You pilot an aircraft through mazelike levels while you have to avoid or destroy anything that comes in your path. Enemy craft consist of helicopters, boats and other planes. You won't be able to stay in the air forever because your fuelsupply is limited so along the way there are fuel depots which you can fly over to increase your fuel. Fly slowly because this will maximize the amount of fuel you get. Later levels become increasingly difficult by the canyons that become very narrow, fastmoving planes and helicopters and tanks that can fire back at you.

The simplicity of the game means that by today's standards this is pretty outdated but it does what it is designed for very well and that is to instantly put players into action without bothering you with storylines or anything. I actually found it quit fun to play after all these years but it could not hold my attention for very long simply because the levels only allow for a limited amount of variety. Still this was a pretty popular game in it's days and will definately appeal to some of the more nostalgic fans.

Overal rating: 6/10
