- Powerboat USA -

Powerboating is a sport, like many other, which is often associated with the United States. Like the title suggests it's all about powerboating which involves really big boats with huge engines racing around the water. The race itself is completely modelled in 3D but with the technology of the time don't expect it to be very pretty or smooth.

The racing is the main part of the game but you aren't going anywhere without a boat so the first thing you is select one, it's a shame you don't actually buy it and upgrade it as you win. There are plenty of other things for you to do before a race though such as a flythrough of the course you selected to get a feel for it. You can also change things on your boat like the prop and shaft or talk to the other drivers to get some info on the course and how different boats react. There are several courses to choose from most of which are in sunny Miami but there are also two located in San Francisco and in Mississippi but the good thing is that you can set your own course on existing courses. It's a rather simple course editor but it's better than nothing I guess.

The fact that you simply select a boat is rather dissapointing as most people will just get the fastest most powerfull one, the Don Johnson special, and race with that. There are quite some options before and during a race to keep you occupied apart from the race itself obviously. The graphics are a bit shoddy though and there's little to no sound effects and music. Well I'm not really into powerboating and as a game this doesn't have really much to offer for anyone other than fans of the sport because there's simply very few of them around.

Overal rating: 5/10

This game was released for several different systems here are some notes:
Amiga Released in 1990.
C64 Released in 1990.
Since the C64 is really bad with vector graphics this version has sprite based graphics instead which isn't a bad thing.
