The X-men are probably one of the most wellknown group of superheroes in the Marvel universe. In this game you get to play six of them: Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Iceman and nightcrawler and once again Magneto is the villain. You’ll have to fight in four levels but there is a practice level as well in which you can hone your skills.

Once you start the game you can randomly select one of the levels as they don’t have to be done in order. Two X-men can be chosen to enter the level but when they are defeated you can pick from the remaining bunch to replay the level until there are no more X-men and you lose. Three of the team have longranged attacks: Storm, Iceman and Cyclops and the other three will have to do with punches. This is quite annoying because if you lose all the longranged fighters you will stand little chance against some of the enemies you will face. Altough the X-men have unique abilities in the comics here they act exactly the same, you’d think Wolverine with his adamantium claws would make short work of opponents but he is only as strong as nightcrawler even though he’s using his bare fists. None of the superpowers the mutants have are really used ingame though there powers are shown on the character selection screen.

I was really dissapointed in this game and it shows that a license doesn’t make a good game if they don’t put any effort in it. The graphics are pretty bad and the attack animation only moves the character sprite a little forward and back again without anything else. The levels are quite boring as well since they are made like a maze which could serve a purpose in some areas but not as an entire game. I doubt even huge fans of the X-men could like this game so I suggest you leave it well alone.
