- Ocean ranger -

The title of the game Ocean Ranger refers to a new class of frigate sized ships that uses hydrofoils thus allowing them to travel much faster than conventional ships. Armed with weapons that allow you to attack or defend against targets in the air, on the sea and below the seas they are a force to be reckoned with.

As the new captain of the Ocean Ranger you can pick from various campaings in four locations around the world, the Bering sea, southeast Asia, central America and the Persian Gulf. After choosing your area you get your mission details involving primary and secondary targets and ofcourse the place you can return finish your mission. Most of the missions involve blasting enemy craft in the target area's and you will get a message once all the enemies are dispatched. Enemy vehicles can be airplanes, boats or even submarines and you have plenty of weapons onboard to deal with each of those threats. 76mm cannons, sea sparrow and harpoon missiles and depth charges are all part of your arsenal and you can choose which one to load up with before you start the mission. Missions themselves are mostly an action type affair, you do have to keep in mind the objectives and make sure you aren't damaged too much or you will not be able to complete your mission.

Graphically most of the game doesn't use vectors but I think a combination of sprites and some vectors for the background. Then again on the ocean there isn't much of a scenery as it's all blue water anyway. If you're looking for a fullblown simulation then this game isn't it as it's mostly action based, but those looking for something less heavy this could be a nice break from the usual flight sim.

Overal rating: 7/10
