- Volfied -

Volfied is one of those games which is incredibly simple, you draw boxes around the screen which get filled in and when you have enough you finished the level. The figures you can draw don't have to be square but to complete a figure the start and finish of it have to connect to either the sides where you start or to a filled-in part of the screen. It's a bit weird trying to explain it but once you start the game it's very obvious what you should do.

It's not as easy as that though because there are a load of enemies buzzing about the screen and when they hit you you explode. When you're on the field drawing a pattern and one of those baddies touches the line you are drawing a bomb travels along the line until it reaches you and you again explode or you actually complete the figure and the bomb will vanish. Some parts of the screen when filled in will grant you a powerup like a shield or extra speed which will definately help you win. The most difficult part is usually when you've filled in a lot of the screen and you're trying to get that last percentage to complete the leve. You don't have to get 100% as 80% will do, there is a trick to getting 100% though but you'll have to figure it out for yourself.

Volfied actually does have a backstory but I can't really remember it, it has something to do with a planet. The story is so unimportant that some versions don't even bother with text but only show you crashing on the planet and it's on to the game. This type of game has been released so many times in the arcades often with scantly clad ladies in the background as a reward. Volfied doesn't have that but it doesn't bother me a bit and the game is pretty good to play, it's not really earthshakingly original but hey give it a try.

This game was released for many different systems here are some notes:
Amiga Released in 1991.
C64 Released in 1991.
The only 8-bit version released. The lack of colors on the C64 is hurting as some of the objects blend with the background making it hard to see.
DOS Released in 1991.
Released in 1991.
Altough this was released in Japan only as far as I know the entire game seems to be in English.
Turbo Grafx
Released in 1989.
This is also in English just like the MD version. This was also the first version to be released.
Others This version is not available.
