- Track and field -

Track and field is a game in a long line of games based on the olympics. The thing that kept with me the most was that the characters had really big noses like super mario. Anyway you play a set number of events and the winner of the most events obviously takes all. If you do not qualify for an event though you cannot proceed to the next event which can sometimes lead to frustration as you have to do all the first few events again.

There are a total of six events:
- 100 meter dash, run as fast as you can for 100 meters
- long jump, jump as far as you can into a sandbox
- javelin throw, throw a javelin (spear) as far as you can
- 110 meter hurdles, run as fast as you can while jumping over hurdles
- hammer, throw a hammer as far as you can
- high jump, make a running high jump as high as you can

You can see from the evenlist that these are pretty much the most obvious events, most of which are the same as other games in the genre. It was however one of the first games to do so because the original arcade version was released in 1983. The format of the events is pretty simple you have to run as fast as you can and in some events press the button to jump or throw at a certain angle. The two running events give you only one chance to qualify in a certain time but the others give you three chances. The only event that differs is the high jump in which you get three attempts per height and if you clear that height you can simply go on to the next until you get three failed attempts.

These olympic games have been around for ages and in the arcades the idea was to mash the buttons as fast as you can to go faster. This version is different because you have to move slower at the start while building it up towards faster speeds which can at times present a bit of a challenge if your not accustomed to it. The high jump especially can get tricky as you often press the button far too early so you cannot get over the bar anymore. If you're into this kind of game track and field is ok but it offers very little over other games in the genre but that is the fate of early games.
