- Rick Dangerous 2 -

Action games have always and probably will always be a staple diet in the game industry. To distinguish yourself in such a huge market you have to come up with something new to make your product better than the rest. Rick Dangerous 2, like it's prequel, has plenty of puzzles for you to solve apart from the action. Once again the world is in jeopardy and who better than Rick to once again save the day.

There are initially four levels that you can play in whichever order you want: Hyde park, Londen, the ice caverns of Freezia, the forests of Vegetablia and the atomic mud mines. Once you complete these levels you get access to the fat guys headquarters, the hideout of the main villain of the game. Each level has loads of enemies and plenty of deathtraps but all of them are diffirent from each other. The enemies mainly patrol certain areas and it's a simple case of looking for how they move and avoiding them or taking them out. The other dangers awaiting you are rolling boulders, falling spikes, spears, lasers and the list goes on endlessly. Rick isn't helpless though as he has a sixshooter with him to take out enemies and a number of bombs, these bombs can be slid across the floor towards enemies or objects in your way so they play a very important role in the puzzles.

Altough the game has only four levels each of them is huge and will take plenty of time and patience to complete since the difficulty levels is very high. This is because many dangers don't present themselves until it's already too late like thrusting spears and falling rocks so you will have to memorize a lot of these. Each time you lose a life you start at the beginning of a screen and you will have to finish each completely before you can go to the next which also ups the difficulty. The graphics are quite simple with small sprites but there is quite some variation in the levels. The difficulty level will assure the game will last you quite a while and the game's well worth the effort so give it a go.

Overal rating: 8/10

This game was released for many different systems here are some notes:
Amiga Released in 1990.
This version has loads of trainers if you need em.
Amstrad CPC Released in 1990.
Atari ST Released in 1990.
This is pretty much indistinguishable from the other 16-bit versions.
C64 Released in 1990.
The best of the 8-bit versions.
DOS Released in 1990.
Altough graphically equal to the amiga and ST versions, the sound is not so good.
ZX Spectrum Released in 1990.
The lack of detail makes this the worst version.
