- Team Yankee -

Team yankee is based on a novel and features five mission based on situations in the book. You must control four squads of tanks, each consisting of four tanks, in battle against Soviet first echelon forces. Two of your squads consist of four M1 Abrams tanks, one squad consists of two M1's and two ITV's and the last squad consists of two M2 Bradley's and two M113. The latter squad is the weakest because the M113 is a troop carrier and does not carry heavy weapons. The M2 and ITV can both carry TOW missiles which are very powerfull but you can only fire them while stationary, loading times are longer and you cannot carry much ammo for it. The M1 is your main attack vehicle and it can carry two different rounds, high explosive and armor piercing. Others weapons are machine guns for which ammo is unlimited and smoke bombs.

The game can be played from a split view where you can see all four squads at once or individually for each squad. All options are available from the split view but it simply shows less details and is mainly used to keep track of all the squads at once. You do not control movements of the tanks directly but instead you give commands where to go, how fast and in what formation on the map. Shooting is done by you and you have to find the enemies yourself with the help of the zoom function and the infrared scope. Once you find and confirm that it's the enemy load up the correct ammo and fire away but do it quick because once you start firing the enemy will quickly home in on you. To stay hidden from enemies you can hide between trees or you can put up a smokescreen with either your bombs or simply use your enginesmoke.

The interface is fairly easy to learn and soon you'll be able to control all four squads with ease. It's a shame that you cannot control what tanks are in your squads because some of them are rather limited in their use. The graphics and sound effects get the job done but don't expect anything special because they aren't. Despite the short game, only five levels, and rather limited AI it's still fun to control squads of tanks blasting away. There are two sequels to this game and they add loads of extra's like buying your own tanks/ammo and less linear missions but if you'd like to give it a try I suggest you play this first.
The three different versions are identical to eachother so choose whichever version you like best.
