- Falklands 82 -

Falklands '82 is a strategy wargame that is modelled after the Falklands war that took place during may 21st and june 15th in 1982. The particular circumstances I'm not sure of but apparently Argentine forces took over the Falkland islands which were a part of the English empire so they came to take it back thus earning the game the subtitle "the empire strikes back". The game itself lets you control troops that land on the island and you'll have to defeat every single regiment of Argentine troops to take the islands back. In addition to land troops you can also use airstrikes and naval support to back you up.

Your first task is to assign all the ships under you control to either task force support or naval support. The first will deploy troops on land and the latter is used offshore to bombard the enemy from a distance. You can chose to land on four different spots on the island but unlike the actual war the enemy troops aren't always stationed the same way so you'll have to decide where you want to land. The landing spot closest to the city will obviously be guarded and it will be difficult to land there but landing far away will have your troops marching a long way to take out all the opposing troops. Your troops will vary from commando units and tanks to long range artillery, each of these can be controller directly by you in turnbased combat. Each unit has a number of statistics like movement and morale which are important to keep track off. It's also important that units that have longer range can shoot over other units but you cannot move than one unit in one playing square so you'll have to check the terrain before you walk in a trap.

Falklands '82 is a fairly simple wargame but it's by no means easy, you'll only have about 25 to 30 turn ingame, depending on the difficulty level, at which time you must have taken out every Argentinian unit or it's game over. Luckily several turns before the end all units will reveal themselves so you can go all out on them. Graphically there is nothing much to write about as you units are simple figures with no animation whatsoever and the map you play on stays the same throughout the entire game. This actually reminds me of another strategy game called 'president' which is quite similar but is focused more on strategy then warfare. Dispite the limited gameplay I found the game entertaining considering it's age.
