- Fabulous Wanda, the -

Back when home computers were first released in the form of the Commodore 64 (and earlier types) and zx spectrum they usually came with a programming language such as basic. This gave people the opportunity to create programs and games themselves and this game appears to be such a game. The fabulous Wanda and the secret of life, the universe and everything is an adventure game written in basic and it stars you as a lone traveller in space until you come across a nasty person who gives you a choice: search out Wanda and find out her secret or be desintegrated. With that you are taken to the planet where she is supposed to be and left to your own fate.

Almost the entire game is played using multiple choice as most problems simply give you two options one almost certainly leading to a bad end. There are however two minigames in the game both of which can make you some money. The first is an arcade game where you must collect icons that will pay out cash, this is a simple vertically scrolling affair. The other game is a higher or lower cardgame in the casino, here you select what you think the next card will be and if you get three in a row your bet will be payed out. Both of these minigames are quite simple but definately the most enjoyable parts of the game. The entire game uses ascii graphics except for your spaceship which happens to be a hardware sprite so don't expect anything wild in that departmant.

I'm quite sure this game was never released in retail but it was quite interesting when I first got it as it gave me a glimpse of game programming regardless of it's quality. I actually ripped the scrolling minigame and made it into a standalone game which was fun in those days. For those that never actually played this game before I highly doubt that you will get much out of it. Gameplay is very limited and I don't actually think you can complete the game but you can always check it out just to see how simple a game could be back then.

Overal rating: 5/10

This game was released for one system here are some notes:
C64 Released in 1987.
Once you start the game you cannot break out of it and see/change the code so you have to load the game without autorunning it and you can check out the programming. In case you don't know how just type: load"filename",8,1 in the emulator where "filename" is the name of the game (I forgot the exact file)
