- Lost files of Sherlock Holmes, the -

Who hasn't heard of Sherlock Holmes, the detective who solves crime with his use of logic and who's often escorted by Dr. Watson in his adventures. This time there has been a murder and from the look of it it seems that Jack the Ripper has once again struck. Sherlock Holmes has said that because the Ripper seems to choose victims at random he is unlikely to be able to help but inspector Lestrade of Scotland yard has wrote a letter that he might find the case interesting. At once Holmes and Dr. Watson set out to the crimescene and try to help find the one responsible.

Sherlock Holmes and the case of the serrated scalpel is a point and click adventure and most of the above story is told through the animated and spoken introduction. Once the game starts you find yourself in Holmes' house where he and Dr. Watson were having a cup of tea when they received the letter about the murder. Most of the screen is taken up by a view of the are with the characters and below that the commands with which you can control Holmes. Once you go outside you can talk to the newspaper man to find out if there is anything interesting happening and a local boy who can help you find things around town for a price. But for now you have to go to the crimescene which is done by a map of London and any places of interest are marked so you can easily select where to go next. At the crimescene inspector Lastrade asks you to investigate the area and tell him of any unusual findings. After this the game quickly becomes a mystery about who the murderer was and why he killed this woman, is he really Jack the Ripper or is someone imitating him to try and give him the blame.

Sherlock Holmes is a classic adventure with an easy to use point and click interface much like others of it's time. The game itself plays much like others as well with some clever puzzles that don't get too frustrating and fairly nice graphics. The speech at the beginning of the game really adds to the atmosphere but as this is the disk version there is no speech throughout the entire game. It's very enjoyable and especially for people who like Sherlock Holmes mysteries but any adventurer should give this game a go.

Overal rating: 8/10
