- Genghis Kahn -

The secret legend of the mongol dynasty.
The origin of the Mongol dynasty was from the marriage of a heaven-born grey wolf and a whitish doe, who crossed a great lake and settled at the foot Mount Burkhan.

The game starts off with the above text but I have no clue what it means. Anyway Genghis Kahn is a strategy game where you play that man on a mission of conquest. You start the game by selecting to conquer either Mongolia or the world. The Mongolia compaign starts with one territory under your control and you goal is to conquer all fourteen lands of Mongolia. The world conquest lets you choose from four different rulers from Mongolia, England, Japan and the Byzantine Empire to conquer 27 lands in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle east. The only way to conquer land is to wage war and take them over but ofcourse you need all matter of support in the form of food and money and such things. You will have to run the territories under your control so that you can trade things and keep your people happy.

The main screen shows all the different lands and here you will give orders to do all manner of things. You must manage many different aspects in this game from buying and training troops to producing items and food. You can even improve yourself and your generals by training in things like diplomacy and leadership. Battles are waged on a gridshaped map where you control your units like cavalry and archers. You can split up or join units to form large armies or smaller ones to attack from several sides. There are tons of statistics to view and plenty of micromanagement to do in the game. Luckily you can relieve yourself a bit by placing other generals in charge of conquered lands and giving them general orders. Time plays out by the four seasons and you can give three orders per season in the territory that you are physically in and only one for another territoy under your control.

This being a pure strategy game there is little in the way of graphics and sounds, the main information you get is all from text. It can become somewhat tedious because of the incredible amount of micromanagement you have to do to keep up. I could not get used to the pace of the game which even for a strategy game is extremely slow. This game is not for the masses and unless you like this type of pure strategy game it's unlikely you will enjoy it.

Overal rating: 5/10

This game was released for many different systems here are some notes:
Amiga Released in 1988.
Game has been tested but not completed with winUAE v0.9.91.
The graphics although in hi-resolution are not very good because they are dithered and look very grainy.
DOS Released in ?.
I was unable to obtain this gain and thus could not test it.
NES Released in 1989.
Game has been tested but not completed with FCE ultra 0.98.12.
The graphics don't look grainy because it is in low-resolution but the joypad controls are not as easy to use as a mouse.
