- Floor 13 -

These days you see movies and tv-series about conspiracies everywhere but the stories have been around for decades so it was a matter of time before a game was made about it. Floor 13 puts you in the role of the director of a secret goverment organization that resides on the 13th floor of a building in London. Your predecessor 'fell' out of the window and your job is now to ensure that the current government stays ahead of the competition in the polls while not getting publically involved yourself.

The game starts on the 1th of january and every three weeks you are reviewed by the prime minister to see if you are doing your job well. If you keep his party's approval rating above 50 percent you will usually get more funding but do badly and the funding might get lowered or you could lose your job. As each day starts you are given reports about things or people that may damage the goverment and you have to act to prevent further damage. You can for instance put surveillance or a tail on people to find out what they are doing, search their houses for evidence or use propaganda to discredit them. Organizations can be infiltrated by your agents and for the nasty parts you can call up the interrogation department or heavy assault team and as a last resort you can use the assasination squad.

The game is completely played from a menu and most of the time you spend behind your desk reading reports and giving orders. You can go to each department and review their current orders and in some cases like interrogation you can give more detailed orders such as what kind of methods they can use. When you get more funding each department gains extra teams which gives you the ability to crack the more difficult cases that come up later in the game.

I have to admit that when I first played the game I though that it would be a bit boring since you basically only get to select a few choices from a menu but after playing a while I was hooked and couldn't stop playing it. Part of this may be because I couln't find a save game feature so you'll have to keep playing or lose your current game. The graphics in the game are entirely black and white which gives it a dark atmosphere even though there are no sounds at all in the game. Since most of the missions aren't too farfetched like alien encounters etc. it even becomes semi realistic and it's definately a decent game.

Overal rating: 7.5/10

DOS Released in 1992.
Game has been tested but not completed on a DOS PC.
The game uses a high resolution dos mode which is probably the reason why I couldn't get it to work on my windows system.
