Early on when computer games weren't considered a serious thing most of the games had no plot and gameplay was fairly limited. That doesn't mean that they were no good, it's just that you didn't have to expect all the extra's you get with most of today's games. Commando is an action game I remember playing a lot when I first got a C64 years ago. You are a lone commando and you have to blast your way across levels filled with enemies while occasionally rescueing a prisoner.

The game is played from an overhead view and you can move your character in any direction. The only weapons you have are a gun which luckily has infinite bullets and grenades. You can't power up your gun but you can pick up more grenades which are scattered across the levels. You can rescue prisoners but apart from points you won't get anything special for doing this. At the end of each level you have to fight a bunch of guards waiting for you, sometimes they run at you from all over the place but they can also be inside a building.

Commando is a pretty simple shooter by today's standards but 20 years ago these were pretty much the norm as most games were arcade conversions. Because of this the game might not last you very long but considering it's age it's not bad. If you like shooters you might give this one a try.

Overal rating: 6.5/10
