- Ulysses and the golden fleece -

The golden fleece is a treasure that was sought by Jason and his argonauts. They set out to find the fleece overcoming many obstacles in their quest. Ulysses and the golden fleece has much of the same story but instead of Jason you are Ulysses and your king has tasked you with finding the fleece. Along the way you'll encounter many hostiles and you will have to use your wits to overcome them. Some of these are characters from Greek mythology like the sirens and the cyclops.

The game takes the form of a text adventure and you have to type in commands on the bottom of the screen. Most of the screen is filled with a picture that depicts your current whereabouts. The picture also shows items that you can pick up so it's a good idea to look at the picture as well as read the information about your surroundings. The commands you can give are pretty standard fare such as picking up items and using them.

Ulysses is a very early adventure game from Sierra and altough the premise of ancient mythology as a game is quite promising the actual game is a bit of a letdown. The descriptions of the locations are a bit minimal and you don't have the sense of involvement that you would on a quest of such a magnitude. The later sierra adventures are much better and this is definately not up to par with the adventures from infocom released at the time. Give it a try if you'd like but there a much better text adventures around.

Overal rating: 6/10
