- Pitfall -

Pitfall is a classic game that was released first on the Atari 2600. You play the part of Pitall Harry and the aim of the game is simple, you have to find as much treasure as you can in the jungle within a certain amount of time. The valuables you can collect include bags of money (howd they get there?), silver and gold which will give you points. On the way however there are plenty of obstacles in your path and the only way to avoid them is to jump over them or swing across using some vines. Some of these like rolling logs or falling traps will only deduct an amount of points but others like swamps and crocodiles will cause you to lose a life. You only have 20 minutes to try and collect all the treasures lying around but be carefull or you won't even be able to go all the way.

The graphics are pretty simple and many of the screens will look exactly alike making it look like your going around in circles. I can assure you that this is not the case though and if you keeping walking the same direction you are bound to find some treasure. Some of the traps are quite hard to avoid like the moving skull which can only be avoided by doing some split second jumping. Trying to collect all the treasure is pretty fun though and it will take you ages to get them all. I have to admin that I never completed the game though but maybe one of these days :) You can try for yourself though as the game is tiny and much more fun than many of today's DVD filling games.

This game was released for several different systems here are some notes:
Atari 2600 Released in 1982.
Game has been tested but not completed with Stella v1.4.1.
This is the original release and it shows that you don't need fancypants graphics to make a fun game.
Atari 5200 Released in 1982.
The backgrounds are a bit more detailed but otherwise this is pretty much the same as the Atari 2600 version.
C64 Released in 1984.
Game has been tested but not completed with CCS64 v2.0 win.
There's very little difference between this and the original atari 2600.
Colecovision Released in 1983.
Because of the different resolution this has the best graphics of all the versions.
Intellivision Released in 1982.
This is closest to the C64 version which is a bit of middle of the road.
