- Paperboy -

Paperboy is a classic arcade game in which you play, you guessed it, a paperboy. This job is not as easy as one would think because there are plenty of dangers on the streets like dogs, lawnmowers and open manholes. You have one street on your route and on the first level a limited number of houses will have a subscription to the newspaper but if you do well then on later levels more people will subscribe. If you don't deliver the newspaper or if you toss the paper through a window then people will unsubscribe and if the number gets too low you will be fired.

The game is played from a third person view with you riding your bike upwards and the houses to the left of you. You can only hold a limited number of papers at one time so along the way you'll have to pick up new ones that are places on your route. Newspapers have to be put into the mailbox but in proper paperboy fashion you have to throw them in. Not an easy feat considering you can be anywhere from next to the box up to halfway across the street. You can slow down so that you can get a better aim but don't take too slow or time will run out. As mentioned before there are plenty of obstacles in your path but the most annoying one is the curbe because you can only get on it when it is level with the street. If you fall you will always start on the main road which often stops you from getting back on not only making it a lot harder to hit the mailbox but you will miss getting a new stack of newspapers. At the end of a level you can show your skills on a bmx track by riding and jumping around to score some extra points.

Paperboy was a very popular game in it's days because it's so easy to pick up and have a go. It may not offer a lot of depth but remember that it was designed for the arcades. I have some good memories of playing this game on my C64 and altough it may seem a bit dated today you should check it out so you can relive the old days again.
